This section traces the history and development of anesthesia from ancient times to modern applications, highlighting key discoveries such as the use of curare and cocaine in eye surgery and the evolution of regional anesthesia techniques. We discussed the decline in the use of nitrous oxide, ether, and chloroform due to their toxic effects and the development of new anesthetic agents. The historical development of techniques and tools like endotracheal intubation, anesthesia delivery systems, intravenous agents, and neuromuscular blocking drugs is detailed. Additionally, it covers the origins of laryngoscopy, the sniffing position, surgical anesthesia history, and pioneers in anesthesiology.
