DDT (Dikloro Difenil Trikloroetan) Kullanımı ve Sonuçları
Özet
Tarih boyunca epidemik tifüsün savaşlar, kıtlıklar ve göçlerin ardından binlerce, hatta toplam olarak düşünüldüğünde milyonlarca ölüme neden olmuştur. Kitabın bu bölümünde öncelikle İkinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında askerler, mülteciler ve bazı toplumlarda epidemik tifüs salgınlarına karşı dikloro difenil trikloroetan (DDT) kullanılmasının nedenleri ve nasıl uygulandığı anlatılacaktır. Daha sonraki yıllarda DDT’nin başka hastalıklara karşı da kullanıldığı, ancak ortaya çıkan ekolojik sorunlarla kullanımının kısıtlandığı hatta yasaklandığı konusu ele alınacaktır.
Throughout history, epidemic typhus has caused thousands, even millions of deaths in total, following wars, famines and migrations. In this part of the book, the reasons for the use of dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane (DDT) against epidemic typhus epidemics among soldiers, refugees and some societies during the Second World War and how it was applied will be explained. The issue that DDT was also used against other diseases in the following years, but its use was restricted or even banned due to ecological problems, will be discussed.
