This study aims to examine pre-service science teachers' approaches to environmental ethics and environmental problem-solving, as well as how these approaches reflect on their daily lives. Conducted using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, the study included 15 pre-service teachers in its quantitative dimension and 5 pre-service teachers selected from this group for its qualitative dimension. Descriptive analysis of the quantitative data revealed that a large majority of pre-service teachers adopted an ecocentric ethical stance and the deep ecology approach under radical ecology, whereas anthropocentric ethics and the sustainable development approach were preferred by a more limited number of candidates. Findings from qualitative interviews showed that the life reflections of candidates adopting sustainable development were consistent with their theoretical views; however, some candidates claiming to adopt deep ecology or social ecology held statements contradicting their theoretical stance, such as emphasizing economic growth or population control. In light of the results, while candidates' ecocentric awareness is promising, it is recommended that environmental education content in teacher education curricula be enriched through a holistic approach to transform theoretical environmental ethics knowledge into concrete attitudes and correct actions.
