Kantitatif Genetik
Quantitative genetics is a fundamental field of genetics that investigates the inheritance of continuously varying traits and the contributions of genetic and environmental factors to their expression. This chapter introduces the main characteristics and polygenic basis of quantitative traits and explains the relationships among phenotype, genotype, and environment. Phenotypic variation is examined in terms of its genetic and environmental components, while genetic variance is further described through additive, dominance, and epistatic components. Broad- and narrow-sense heritability, their estimation methods, and their importance in breeding programs are also discussed. The concepts of selection and genetic gain are presented in relation to the improvement of quantitative traits across generations. Correlation and regression are introduced as important statistical approaches for evaluating relationships among traits. Finally, modern approaches, including genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and genomic selection, are discussed to demonstrate how genomic technologies complement classical quantitative genetics and improve the efficiency and accuracy of contemporary breeding programs.
