Özet

Bu bölüm, ökaryotik hücrelerde genetik materyalin doğru aktarılmasını sağlayan mitoz ve mayoz bölünmenin temel mekanizmalarını ele almaktadır. Öncelikle kromozom, kromatin, homolog kromozom ve sentromer gibi temel kavramlar açıklanmakta; hücre döngüsünün G1, S, G2 ve M evreleri ile hücre döngüsü kontrol noktalarının genom bütünlüğünün korunmasındaki rolleri özetlenmektedir. Mitozun profazdan sitokineze kadar uzanan aşamaları ve büyüme, doku yenilenmesi ve hücresel homeostazdaki önemi incelenmektedir. Ardından Mayoz I ve Mayoz II süreçleri, kromozom sayısının yarıya indirilmesi, homolog kromozomların ayrılması, bağımsız dağılım ve krossing-over mekanizmaları açısından ele alınmaktadır. Profaz I'in leptoten, zigoten, pakiten, diploten ve diakinez evreleri genetik rekombinasyon açısından ayrıntılandırılmaktadır. Bölüm, mitoz ve mayozun kromozomların doğru dağılımı, genetik çeşitliliğin oluşumu ve eşeyli üremenin devamlılığı açısından biyolojik önemini bütüncül bir yaklaşımla sunmaktadır.
