Endodontics deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and possible sequelae of the pulp, the living part of the tooth rich in cells, blood vessels, and nerves, and the apical, periapical, radicular, and periradicular tissues. Damage to the pulp, or partial or complete loss of vitality, for any reason leads to tooth loss. Timely diagnosis of changes in the pulp and endodontic treatment options can prevent tooth loss. Maintaining the function of the tooth, even if it is no longer vital, improves the quality of life for patients and is especially important for working animals. For this purpose, some pulpectomy methods such as step-down, step-down, and crown-down techniques, balanced force, and motor-assisted techniques are used as alternatives to basic root canal treatment with hand instruments. Partial pulpectomy, where a portion of the pulp is affected by inflammation or necrotic pulp fragments, is another method that can save the vitality and function of the tooth. In conclusion, although many techniques have been developed to preserve the health or function of a tooth, traditional root canal treatment, provided the appropriate instruments are available, should be considered and studied by veterinarians as a more feasible technique compared to other methods.
