Periodontolojide Airflow Kullanımı
Özet
Bu bölüm, periodontolojide airflow sistemlerinin güncel kullanım alanlarını ve klinik önemini ele almaktadır. Dental biyofilmin periodontal ve peri-implant hastalıkların temel etiyolojik unsuru olması nedeniyle, biyofilmin etkili ve doku koruyucu biçimde uzaklaştırılması modern tedavi yaklaşımlarında önem taşımaktadır. Bölümde air-polishing/airflow sistemlerinin çalışma prensipleri, kullanılan toz tiplerinin partikül özellikleri ve biyolojik etkileri ayrıntılı biçimde incelenmiştir. Özellikle glisin ve eritritol bazlı düşük abraziv tozların subgingival biyofilm kontrolü, destekleyici periodontal tedavi ve peri-implant bakım alanındaki yeri güncel kanıtlar ışığında değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca airflow uygulamalarının aktif periodontal tedavideki adjunktif rolü, hasta konforu, klinik verimlilik, implant yüzeylerinde biyofilm kontrolü ve güvenlik parametreleri tartışılmıştır. Mevcut literatür doğrultusunda airflow sistemlerinin konvansiyonel mekanik yöntemlerin yerine geçen bağımsız bir yaklaşım değil, uygun endikasyonlarda tamamlayıcı bir biyofilm yönetim aracı olduğu vurgulanmaktadır.
This chapter discusses the current applications and clinical relevance of airflow systems in periodontology. Since dental biofilm is the primary etiological factor in periodontal and peri-implant diseases, its effective and tissue-preserving removal has become an important focus of modern therapy. The chapter examines the working principles of air-polishing/airflow systems, together with the particle characteristics and biological effects of the powders used. Particular emphasis is placed on low-abrasive glycine- and erythritol-based powders in subgingival biofilm control, supportive periodontal therapy, and peri-implant maintenance. It also addresses the adjunctive role of airflow in active periodontal treatment, patient comfort, clinical efficiency, biofilm management on implant surfaces, and relevant safety parameters. Based on the available literature, airflow systems are presented not as stand-alone replacements for conventional mechanical debridement, but as complementary biofilm management tools when used with appropriate indications and protocols.
