Radiologic Evaluation of Dentoalveolar Trauma
Özet
In this chapter, the radiologic evaluation of dentoalveolar trauma is addressed through a comprehensive approach with emphasis on accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and the determination of long-term prognosis. The fundamental role of periapical, occlusal, and panoramic radiography in the assessment of traumatic dental injuries is outlined, while the inherent limitations of two-dimensional imaging and the additional three-dimensional diagnostic advantages provided by cone-beam computed tomography in selected cases are highlighted. Furthermore, the potential applications of radiation-free imaging modalities, including ultrasonography and dental magnetic resonance imaging, in the evaluation of the periodontal ligament, pulp, and soft tissues are discussed. Radiologic features of different fracture and luxation injuries, the early detection of follow-up complications, and strategies to avoid common interpretation errors are reviewed in light of the current literature, emphasizing the importance of integrating clinical findings with radiologic assessment for optimal patient management.
