Originating in China, Qigong and Tai Chi are mind-body exercises combined with breathing techniques that aim to develop physical, mental, and spiritual balance. They facilitate the opening of energy meridians in the body, soothe the nervous system, and strengthen the immune system. Due to these effects, they support the healing process during surgical care by reducing pain, stress, and anxiety. In this respect, Qigong and Tai Chi are currently used as nursing interventions within the scope of traditional and complementary medical practices in surgical nursing. In this context, Qigong and Tai Chi are used today as complementary and supportive practices in the surgical care process. The general definitions, methods, mechanisms of action, and areas of use of these two practices in the surgical care process are discussed in this section.
