Dergi Metrikleri
In modern academic publishing, the impact level and academic quality of journals are assessed through quantitative metrics that inform journal selection and institutional performance evaluations. Journal metrics, built upon citation-based, prestige-oriented, and field-normalized approaches, have become the primary tools in these assessment processes. However, differences in coverage and methodology among databases such as Web of Science and Scopus, as well as variations in publication and citation practices across disciplines, make it difficult to interpret these indicators independently of their context. Therefore, journal metrics should not be regarded as absolute measures of quality in isolation; rather, they should be considered complementary tools that require joint interpretation, taking into account disciplinary characteristics, time windows, and underlying calculation methods. Only when such a holistic and critical approach is adopted can quantitative indicators contribute to a more robust and meaningful evaluation of journal performance.
