Geriatric Psoriasis

Özet

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease triggered by genetic and environmental factors. Although it can occur at any age, its prevalence is increasing in aging populations, making psoriasis an important condition in geriatric care. The higher prevalence of comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and arthritis in geriatric psoriasis complicates the management of the disease. The disease can present in various forms including plaque, inverse, guttate, pustular and erythrodermic psoriasis, with plaque psoriasis being the most common subtype among the elderly. However, the inverse and guttate types are more common in this population than in younger adults.
The management of geriatric psoriasis requires careful consideration of comorbidities, potential drug interactions, and overall quality of life, which is influenced by the psychological and social effects of the disease. As the elderly population increases, psoriasis in geriatric patients will become a significant problem, requiring greater awareness and specialised care strategies.
