Skin Diseases of the Elderly
Özet
The skin has important functions, such as thermoregulation, fluid and electrolyte balance, maintaining a physical barrier against external factors, functioning as a sensory organ, synthesizing hormones such as vitamin D, and playing a role in both natural and acquired immunity. Changes are observed in the structure and functions of the skin with aging. It is important to know these changes to diagnose and treat skin diseases in the geriatric age group and to apply skin care appropriately and correctly. In this section, changes in the aging skin and geriatric dermatoses will be discussed.
