Yemlerin Çevresel Etkileri-İklim Değişikliği

Özet

Yem endüstrisi, tarım endüstrisinin karmaşık ve çok dinamik bir parçasıdır. Son birkaç yıldır, et, süt ürünleri ve yumurta gibi hayvansal proteine ​​olan talebin dünya çapında artmasıyla birlikte, hayvan yemine olan talep de önemli ölçekte artmıştır. İnsan nüfusundaki sürekli artış ve yükselen gelirler nedeniyle hayvansal proteine ​​olan talep artmakta; buna bağlı olarak et, süt ve balık ürünlerini içeren hayvansal protein sektörünün 2033'e kadar sırasıyla %12, %1,6 ve %11,2 oranında artması öngörülmektedir. Bu öngörü, sürdürebilir hayvancılık açısından, hayvancılığın çevresel etkilerini daha fazla öncelemeyi zorunlu kılmaktadır. Zira hayvancılığın iklim değişikliğine katkısının %12-20 arasında olduğu tahmin edilmektedir, çoğunlukla geviş getiren hayvanlardan kaynaklanan metan ve meralar oluşturmak için kesilen ormanlardan salınan karbondioksit bu katkının önemli bir kısmını oluşturmaktadır. Yem üretiminin, genel hayvancılık tedarik zincirlerinin yaşam döngüsündeki toplam sera gazı üretimdeki rolü oldukça önemli olmak yanında ötrofikasyon, asitleşme ve fosil enerji kullanımı gibi etkileri de önemlidir.
