Elektroaktif Bakterilerin Enfeksiyon Hastalıklarının Tedavisinde Kullanımı

Özet

Elektroaktif bakteriler (EAB), elektron transferi yapabilme yetenekleri sayesinde son yıllarda biyomedikal araştırmalarda dikkat çekici bir potansiyel kazanmıştır. Bu mikroorganizmalar, dış elektron alıcıları veya vericileriyle etkileşime girerek hücresel redoks dengesini düzenleyebilir ve biyofilmler, yara iyileşmesi ile antimikrobiyal uygulamalarda yeni tedavi stratejilerinin geliştirilmesine katkı sunabilir. Güncel çalışmalar, özellikle Shewanella oneidensis ve Geobacter sulfurreducens gibi türlerin elektrokimyasal özelliklerinden yararlanarak antibiyotik dirençli patojenlere karşı biyolojik elektrik akımı temelli tedavi sistemlerinin geliştirilebileceğini göstermektedir. Bu bakteriler, enfekte dokularda mikroskobik biyopil elektrotlar olarak işlev görebilir; böylece lokal oksidatif stres kontrolü, immün modülasyon ve ilaç etkinliğinin artırılması sağlanabilir. Ayrıca, elektroaktif bakterilerin genetik mühendisliği ile sentezlenen biyoelektronik hücre sistemleri, enfeksiyon bölgesinde gerçek zamanlı tanı ve tedavi kombinasyonlarına olanak tanımaktadır. Bu yaklaşım, klasik antibiyotik tedavilerine alternatif, hedefe yönelik ve çevre dostu bir biyoterapötik platform olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Ancak, klinik uygulamaya geçiş için biyogüvenlik, biyouyumluluk ve elektriksel kontrol mekanizmalarının optimize edilmesi yönünde ileri araştırmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
