Viral infections cause loss of productivity, treatment costs, abortions, deaths, and, if left uncontrolled, expanded epidemics, leading to reduced production and thus economic losses and a reduction in protein resources. It is very important to implement biosecurity principles and measures successfully and continuously to ensure herd health in ruminant and pig farm. Vaccination, quarantine, compliance with hygiene rules, cleaning and decontamination are key to preventing possible contamination and spread. Both farm workers and veterinarians should be more careful, especially in situations where there is a risk of zoonosis, and they should comply with personal hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and cleaning and disinfection procedures. In this sense, all approaches to preventing or reducing all the negative effects mentioned point to the importance of biosecurity. The main purpose of biosecurity is to prevent the introduction of infectious agents or, in the case of disease, to prevent the spread of infection.
