Özet

Yaşlı kanser hastalarında tanı ve tedavi süreci, sadece tıbbi değil, aynı zamanda etik, psikososyal ve iletişimsel boyutlarıyla da hassas bir yaklaşım gerektirir. Geriatrik hasta grubunda görülebilecek işitsel, görsel ve bilişsel kısıtlılıklar; iletişim tarzının basit, açık, empatik ve kültürel olarak hassas olmasını zorunlu kılar. Bu nedenle yaşlı bireylerde hastanın fizyolojik rezervlerini, bilişsel kapasitesini, sosyal destek düzeyini ve kırılganlık durumunu da dikkate alan bütüncül bir yaklaşım zorunludur. Hasta ve yakınlarıyla açık, empatik, kültürel açıdan duyarlı ve bireyselleştirilmiş bir iletişim stratejisi geliştirmek, tedaviye uyumu, hasta memnuniyetini ve yaşam kalitesini artırmaktadır. Sağlık profesyonellerinin yapılandırılmış iletişim yaklaşımlarını benimsemesi ve multidisipliner iş birliği içinde yaşlı hastaya ve yakınlarına güven veren bir bakım ortamı inşa etmesi, onkolojik tedavi sürecinin başarısı için vazgeçilmez bir unsurdur.
