This section outlines the fundamental feeding strategies to be implemented during the growth phase of calves from birth to weaning and heifers until they attain breeding age. The administration of high-quality colostrum within the initial hours post-birth is essential for conferring passive immunity and mitigating early mortality. After the colostrum phase, calves should continue to be fed milk or milk replacer, and from the first week, they must be introduced to starter feed to facilitate rumen development. Provision of clean and potable water should be ensured in the initial phases. Weaning should be implemented progressively when the calf ingests a minimum of 1–1.5 kg of solid feed daily. The objective during the heifer phase is regulated growth and prompt sexual maturation. Throughout this process, it is essential to sustain energy-protein equilibrium and fulfill the requirements for vitamins (A, D, E) and minerals (calcium, phosphorus, zinc). Insufficient or excessive nutrition can result in postponed sexual maturation and metabolic disorders. Thorough and age-suitable feeding programs established during this phase establish the groundwork for enhanced productivity and herd health in subsequent stages.
