The mammary glands are modified subcutaneous apocrine sweat glands that develop from the epidermis. They have active roles such as providing nutrition and passive immunity to the newborn infant. Mammary tumors are frequently encountered in dogs that have not undergone ovariohysterectomy during the pubertal or prepubertal period. The incidence of mammary tumors is affected by factors such as hormonal status, breed, age, obesity, cultural and socioeconomic status. Histopathological analysis is the basic diagnostic method in diagnosis. Today, in addition to histopathological diagnosis, the use of immunohistochemistry panels that reveal cell profiles is useful for prognosis and treatment.  This review aims to describe the latest developments in canine mammary tumors in terms of histopathological classification, histological grading, molecular and clinical staging.
