Mapping Scientific Research on Circular Economy and Life Cycle Assessment in the Built Environment
Özet
The environmental impacts of the construction sector, such as waste generation, energy and resource consumption, constitute a significant obstacle to achieving sustainable development goals. In this context, adopting circular economy (CE) approaches and integrating life cycle assessment (LCA) methods offer a new paradigm for sustainable transformation in the sector. This study uses a bibliometric analysis method to examine the literature at the intersection of EC and LCA themes in the built environment. As a result of the search conducted in the Web of Science database on 09.04.2025, 506 studies published between 2009 and 2025 were analyzed. The analyses conducted using the Bibliometrix R package and VOSviewer software revealed an annual average increase of 26.5% in the number of publications and a significant increase in the period after 2019. While Italy, China, and the United Kingdom stand out as the most productive countries, keyword analyses emphasize the central role of the concepts of “life cycle assessment”, “sustainability”, “recycling”, and “circular economy”. The findings show that integrating YDD and CE offers a strategic orientation in achieving sustainability goals in the construction sector.
