Academic Trends on Artificial Intelligence Practices in Architecture: a Bibliometric Study (1986-2025)
Özet
The development of digital technologies today is driving a significant transformation in the field of architecture. Innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) are moving beyond traditional design methods, offering more flexible, data-driven, and user-centered solutions. This transformation not only reshapes the design processes of architects but also alters prevailing perspectives on architectural practice. AI is now involved in many stages of the architectural process, including design, simulation, performance analysis, and building optimization, providing new opportunities through an interdisciplinary lens.
This study aims to analyze the impact of AI on the field of architecture and to identify academic trends by examining scholarly publications between 1986 and 2025 through bibliometric methods. The role of AI in the architectural discipline is evaluated based on the increase in publication numbers, relationships between keywords, and international collaborations. The findings reveal a significant rise in the interaction between AI and architecture beginning especially in 2016, reaching its peak in 2023. These results indicate that AI has evolved from being merely a tool to becoming a transformative element in architectural thinking.
For these technologies to be utilized more effectively in the future, strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations and integrating AI into the education system are of critical importance for the sustainable development of the field.
