Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER) is a wave of intense negative emotions that starts just before the milk comes in and lasts for less than a few minutes. It is a common but under-researched disorder in breastfeeding women. It can have significant effects on the mother-baby bond and the continuation of breastfeeding. There is no known treatment for D-MER. Relaxing activities such as skin-to-skin contact, breathing exercises, meditation, massage, music, warm showers, and support can help mothers cope with this problem. This case study aims to examine the causes, risk factors and management strategies of D-MER. It also highlights the critical role of lactation consultants in supporting and guiding mothers experiencing D-MER.
