Breast engorgement, a prevalent breastfeeding issue, often causes discomfort and pain among mothers. Characterized by breast firmness, swelling, and tenderness, this condition may hinder effective latch and feeding. In the absence of timely intervention, it can adversely affect the continuity of breastfeeding and potentially lead to early cessation. Excessive fullness in the breast tissue may also prevent complete milk drainage, thereby increasing the risk of infections such as mastitis. Adequate instruction on breastfeeding techniques and accurate counseling are pivotal in both the prevention and management of engorgement. This case study endeavors to provide a comprehensive analysis of the causes, risk factors, and management strategies associated with breast engorgement during lactation. Furthermore, it offers evidence-based recommendations for effective prevention and treatment methods aimed at enhancing maternal comfort and improving the overall breastfeeding experience. Finally, it underscores the critical role of lactation consultants and midwives in delivering essential guidance and support to mothers experiencing breast engorgement.
