At the Intersection of Meaning: Pragmatics in Language Teaching and Translation
Özet
Addressing the gaps among translation, pragmatics, and language learning is more than a linguistic endeavor; it has been a necessity long-neglected for unlocking deeper effective communication among individuals and across cultures. Pragmatics, the linguistic field handling covert conventions in interaction, also dealing with meaning shifts continuously altered by contextual factors, intertwines with translation on many levels. More than swapping words with their equivalents across one language to another, translation has more to do with transferring emotion, meaning, emotion, and cultural quality. Combined, pragmatics and translation can provide a substantial approach to fostering learners' ability to convey meaning both effectively and meaningfully. Concerning the negotiation of meaning across various contexts, tasks involving translation activity provide learners with the opportunity to polish their pragmatic awareness and think critically about how language functions in daily conventions. Bringing about some practical teaching strategies and approaches that make pragmatics instruction engaging, the chapter intends to provide insight into the intricate details of combining translation activity with language learning in a great many ways. Mentioning the importance of instructional factors, translation strategies, and various other factors concerning language teaching and translation, the chapter hints at some systematic and enjoyable opportunities for future research. For example, what kind of roles do digital platforms play in teaching when combined with the essence of pragmatic communication? In which ways translation tasks can have more pragmatic value? Also, how do learners build intercultural pragmatic competence to survive in this globalized world as interactively engaged individuals? By exploring answers to these questions, language instructors can assist learners in harnessing their present skills through complex communicative situations with self-confidence, empathy, and cultural conformity as well.
