Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Infectıon and Intrauterine Ultrasonography Findings

Özet

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common congenital viral infection. Approximately 90% of newborns with congenital CMV infection are asymptomatic at birth. Although symptomatic newborns are particularly at risk, asymptomatic newborns are also at risk for petechiae, jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, small for gestational age, microcephaly, and neurosensory hearing loss. Intrauterine is usually detected with fetal ultrasonography findings such as periventricular calcifications, ventriculomegaly, microcephaly, and hyperechogenic bowel and ascites. The diagnosis is usually confirmed by CMV DNA PCR from amniocentesis material after the 21st week of gestation. A more careful follow-up process can be established by carefully monitoring ultrasonography markers.
