Streblidae, Hippoboscidae, Glossinidae
Streblidae and Nycteribidae are families within the Hippoboscoidea superfamily and are obligate ectoparasites of bats. Species in the Streblidae family primarily feed on the blood of bats from the Phyllostomidae family. The Hippoboscidae family includes species that feed on the blood of both mammals and birds and is divided into three subfamilies: Lipopteninae, Ornithomyinae, and Hippoboscinae. These flies are typically found in tropical and subtropical regions, give birth to live larvae, and can transmit various disease agents. Glossinidae, commonly known as tsetse flies, are found throughout Africa and act as vectors for diseases that hinder economic development. After mating, female tsetse flies remain fertile for life and give birth to one matured larva at a time.
