Gallbladder and Biliary Tract Disorders

Yazarlar

Özet

Gallbladder and biliary tract disorders encompass a variety of conditions affecting the gallbladder and bile ducts. Among the most common are cholelithiasis (gallstones) and associated inflammation (cholecystitis), as well as other significant diseases such as gallbladder polyps, gallbladder cancer, and hydropic gallbladder. These conditions tend to increase with age and are more common in women. The formation of gallstones is a multifactorial process, with modifiable risk factors including genetics, obesity, diabetes, low-fiber and high-calorie diets, and physical inactivity, along with non-modifiable factors like age and gender. Symptoms typically present as pain in the right upper abdomen, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Furthermore, complications such as pancreatitis and cholangitis can develop if gallstones block the bile ducts. Diagnosis is based on medical history, physical examination, and imaging tests such as ultrasound. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a commonly used treatment for symptomatic gallstone patients. In addition, conservative treatments such as dietary changes and weight management are important in managing the condition. The use of the Tokyo and NICE guidelines in the treatment and management process is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment selection. These guidelines help standardize clinical management, improving patient care.
