Gebe Hastalarda Endodontik Tedavi
Physiological changes occurring during pregnancy significantly affect dental structures in various ways. Both these physiological alterations and the associated lifestyle changes contribute to an increased incidence of dental pathologies. Consequently, the need for root canal treatment also rises among pregnant patients. Moreover, dental pathologies in pregnant individuals have a higher likelihood of becoming complicated compared to non-pregnant patients. Pregnancy, in itself, is not a contraindication for endodontic treatment; however, the treatment plan and timing should be appropriately adjusted to accommodate pregnancy-related considerations. The treatment schedule, patient positioning, diagnostic procedures involving radiation exposure, and medication prescriptions should be tailored specifically for pregnant patients. Elective procedures should be postponed until after delivery whenever possible, whereas emergency interventions should be performed appropriately to prevent potential complications. As with all medical procedures, the risk-benefit balance must always be carefully evaluated when performing endodontic treatments in pregnant patients. This chapter discusses the key considerations at various stages of endodontic treatment in pregnant individuals.
