Özet

Selenyum, insan vücudunda birçok enzimin kofaktörü olan; tiroid hormonu metabolizması, immün sistemin regülasyonu ve antioksidan savunma başta olmak üzere birçok önemli mekanizmada rol alan esansiyel bir elementtir. Eksikliği kanser, yaşlanma, insülin direnci, diyabet, nörodejeneratif ve kardiyovasküler hastalıklar, artmış mortalite riski, immün sistem hastalıklarıyla ilişkilendirilmiştir. Selenyumdan zengin olan besinlerin diyette yeterli miktarda yer alması ve tüketilmesiyle serum Se seviyeleri istenilen düzeyde tutulabilir.
