Vitamin E
Özet
Yağda eriyen bir vitamin olan E vitamininin bilinen en önemli özelliği doğal bir antioksidan olmasıdır. Hücre membran stabilitesini sağlar. E vitamini bitkisel yağlar, et, yumurta ve yapraklı sebzeler gibi çeşitli gıdalarda bulunur. Diyetteki E vitamininin emilmesi için lingual ve gastrik lipaz ile safra tuzlarına ihtiyaç vardır. Bununla beraber sağlam pankreas fonksiyonu ile sağlıklı bağırsak ve ileum mukozası olması gerekir. Bu sayede E vitamini eksikliği nadiren görülür. E vitamini eksikliğinin bulguları arasında en sık hemolize bağlı bulgular, nöromüsküler bozukluklar, ataksi ve periferik nöropati yer alır. Protein ve lipit düzeyleri normal olmayanlarda E vitamini seviyeleri, serum alfa-tokoferolün gram toplam lipit başına oranı olarak hesaplanmalıdır. E vitamini eksikliği saptandığında yüksek doz ile tedavi edilmelidir.
