Vitamin A

Özet

A vitamini; görme, güçlü bir bağışıklık sistemi, üreme ve iyi bir cilt sağlığı dahil olmak üzere birçok vücut fonksiyonu için önemli, yağda çözünen bir vitamindir. Önceden oluşturulmuş A vitamini ve provitamin A olmak üzere gıdalarda iki tip vitamin A vardır. Retinol genellikle et, balık, yumurta ve süt ürünlerinde bulunur. Ayrıca vücut kırmızı, yeşil, sarı ve turuncu meyve ve sebzeler gibi bitkisel gıdalardaki karotenoidleri A vitaminine dönüştürür. Gelişmekte olan ülkelerdeki birçok insan yeterli miktarda A vitamini alamamaktadır. A vitamini eksikliği riski en yüksek olanlar gebeler, emziren anneler, bebekler ve çocuklardır. A vitamini eksikliğinin belirti ve semptomları kuru cilt, kuru gözler, gece körlüğü, infertilite, büyümede gecikme, üst ve alt solunum yolu enfeksiyonları, yara iyileşmesinde gecikme, akne ve dermatit, kistik fibroz ve kronik ishal olabilir. Bununla birlikte hipervitaminoz A ciddi görme değişikliklerine, ağız ülserlerine, konfüzyon ve doğumsal defektlere neden olur.
