The foundation of the health of our future generations begins to be laid in the womb. Pregnancy is a very important period in which both the physiological changes and metabolic needs of the mother increase and all the needs of the developing fetus are met due to maternal transition. Due to the rapidly growing foetus and placenta, the metabolism of the pregnant woman undergoes intense changes. Healthy and balanced nutrition of women during pregnancy and postpartum period is very important for both maternal health and healthy survival of babies. It is necessary to pay attention to adequate protein intake, consumption of balanced carbohydrates and healthy fats, meeting the fluid need and the use of iodised salt. Regular intake of supplements such as folic acid, iron and calcium, which are not sufficient to meet the needs of metabolism, is necessary for both mother and baby.
