Hemangiopericytomas are rare, vascular tumors derived from pericytes which are the contractile cells surrounding capillaries and are known as Zimmerman pericytes. They are highly aggressive meningeal tumors with a tendency for high recurrence and metastases.
Most meningeal hemangiopericytomas resemble meningiomas macroscopically, but with distinct histology. In previous studies, hemangiopericytomas were classified as an angioblastic variant of meningiomas, however, they were later identified as distinct entities clinically and histologically. It is crucial to distinguish hemangiopericytomas from meningiomas, because of their aggressive nature. In this study, we present a rare case of recurrent intracranial hemangiopericytoma with metastases to the spine and brain.
