Özet

Dünya nüfusu yaşlandıkça, yaşlılara yönelik ayrımcılık, istismar ve ihmal konusu bir halk sağlığı sorunu haline gelmiştir. Yaşlı ayrımcılığı, yaşlılara yönelik istismarla yakından ilişkili bir kavramdır. Yaşlı ihmali, yaşlı istismarının en yaygın şeklidir.
Yaşlı ayrımcılığı " insanların yaşlı oldukları için sistematik olarak klişeleştirilmesi ve ayrımcılığa uğraması süreci" olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Yaşlılara yönelik istismar, güven beklentisinin olduğu herhangi bir ilişkide meydana gelen tek veya tekrarlanan bir eylem veya uygun eylem eksikliğidir ve yaşlı bir kişiye zarar veya sıkıntı verir. Bu tür şiddet, insan haklarının ihlalini oluşturur ve fiziksel, cinsel, psikolojik ve duygusal istismarı, mali ve maddi istismarı; terk edilmeyi, ihmali ve ciddi onur ve saygı kaybını içerir.
Nüfusun yaşlanması ve artan uzun ömürlülük, yaşlı yetişkinlere yönelik önyargı ve ayrımcılık konusunda farkındalığı ve bu tür önyargıları azaltmayı teşvik etmektedir. Ülkemizde yaşlı istismarı ve ihmaline yönelik farkındalığın yükseltilmesi, sorunun önüne geçecek sosyal politikaların oluşturulması ve 'Ulusal Yaşlı İstismarı Merkezi' oluşturulması gerekmektedir.

As the world population ages, discrimination, abuse and neglect of the elderly has become a public health problem. Ageism is a concept closely related to abuse against the elderly. Elder neglect is the most common form of elder abuse.
Ageism is defined as "the process by which people are systematically stereotyped and discriminated against because they are old." Elder abuse is a single or repeated action or lack of appropriate action that occurs in any relationship where there is an expectation of trust and causes harm or distress to an older person. Such violence constitutes a violation of human rights and includes physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse, financial and material abuse; to be abandoned, it involves negligence and serious loss of dignity and respect.
Population aging and increased longevity promote awareness of and reduction of prejudice and discrimination against older adults. In our country, awareness of elder abuse and neglect needs to be raised, social policies that will prevent the problem should be created, and a 'National Elderly Abuse Center' should be established.
