Neurodegeneration refers to the gradual loss of structure and function in neurons, leading to increased symptoms and damage over time. This process affects neurons in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Huntington's disease are among the most common neurodegenerative diseases. Current treatment approaches focus on slowing down the progression of these diseases, as a complete reversal or prevention of neurodegeneration is yet to be discovered. However, gene therapies show promise in this field. In advanced stages of neurodegenerative diseases, patients may require intensive care and palliative care support.
