Özet

Toplum içerisinde yaşayan bireylerin besin ögeleri alımında günler arası varyasyon her ne kadar besin ögesine bağlı olarak değişiklik gösterse de sürekli olarak fazla bulunmuştur. Besin ögesi enerji alımına (enerjiye uyarlanmış) bağlı olarak ifade edildiğinde birey içi varyasyonun oranı bireylerarasına göre genellikle fazladır.  Kişi başına tek veya az sayıda 24 saatlik hatırlatmaya dayanan diyet alımı ölçümleri, bir grup için ortalamanın doğru (tarafsız) bir tahminini sağlayabilir, ancak standart sapma büyük ölçüde fazla tahmin edilecektir. Ayrıca, epidemiyolojik çalışmalarda korelasyon ve regresyon katsayıları ve relatif riskler gibi ilişkilerin belirlenmesi olası belirlenemeyen noktalar nedeni ile esasen zayıftır.
