Özet

DNA replikasyonu, bir orijinal DNA molekülünden iki özdeş DNA kopyası üretme işlemidir. Çift sarmalın yapısının aydınlatılması, DNA'nın nasıl bölündüğü ve kendi kopyalarını oluşturduğu konusunda bir ipucu sağlamıştır. DNA replikasyonu, öncelikle genomun küçük boyutu ve mevcut mutantlar nedeniyle prokaryotlarda son derece iyi çalışılmıştır. Ökaryotik genomlar, prokaryotik genomlar ile karşılaştırıldığında boyutları daha büyük ve yapıları daha karmaşıktır. Replikasyonda rol alan enzimler vardır. Örneğin Helikaz enzimleri tarafından replikasyon çatalının açılması ve ikili sarmalın birbirinden ayrılması DNA’nın diğer bölgelerinde ekstra katlanmaların ve süper dönümlerin oluşmasına yol açar. DNA replikasyonu yarı koruyucudur çünkü her yavru molekül, ana molekülden bir sarmal ve bir yeni tamamlayıcı sarmal içerir.
