In this study, the contributions of melatonin and zinc to exercise were examined. Antioxidants are necessary to prevent the harmful effects of free radicals that can occur in organisms performing aerobic respiration. Zinc and melatonin are known as powerful antioxidants. Melatonin has the potential to protect brain functions and delay aging, which is associated with zinc. Melatonin plays an important role in determining sleep time and has a preventive effect on lipid peroxidation. Melatonin exhibits tissue-protective properties by eliminating free radicals. It has been shown that melatonin administration reduces plasma lactate levels and increases muscle-liver glycogen levels in rats subjected to exercise. Additionally, melatonin is effective in preventing lipid peroxidation. This study demonstrates the potential of melatonin and zinc to enhance exercise performance.
