Climate change is the greatest global health issue of the century, threatening human life and well-being by negatively impacting children's access to clean air, safe drinking water, and nutritious food. Children are far more vulnerable to the climate crisis than adults due to their rapidly developing respiratory and immune systems, higher exposure per unit of body weight, and dependence on caregivers. Greenhouse gases accumulating in the atmosphere from fossil fuel combustion increase global warming, triggering disasters like air pollution, heatwaves, floods, and droughts. This situation directly causes decreased lung function, asthma, hyperthermia, and kidney diseases in children, while indirectly leading to malnutrition, the spread of water- and vector-borne infectious diseases, and serious psychological disorders such as climate anxiety. Posing an existential threat, this process transforms the climate crisis into an urgent child rights issue. Turning to renewable clean energy sources and implementing environmentally sensitive strategies are essential for a solution. In this struggle, pediatric nurses must undertake multidimensional and unconventional responsibilities by advocating for child rights, educating families and the community, protecting the health of disadvantaged groups, conducting clinical practices and research, and raising awareness among policymakers.
