In a rapidly globalizing world, advancing technology and international workforce mobility have increased the number of multicultural organizations, making the concept of intercultural competence a critical issue for both global and local businesses. Intercultural competence refers to the capacity to communicate effectively and appropriately with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, adapt, and demonstrate targeted knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Conversely, intercultural incompetence in organizations leads to incompatibility and conflicts among employees, productivity loss, marketing blunders, and failed corporate mergers, resulting in severe financial losses and damage to prestige. Considering the high costs of intercultural incompetence, employing interculturally competent leaders and staff has become imperative for businesses to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage in global markets. However, assessing intercultural competence is a highly dynamic, sensitive, and complex process. Rather than relying on a single inventory or scale, it is recommended to employ a combination of multiple, continuous, and longitudinal evaluation methods, including qualitative interviews, observations, portfolio reviews, standardized tests, and implicit association tools. Consequently, organizations must establish clear competence definitions tailored to their specific sector and structure, effectively managing cultural diversity for organizational benefit through multi-faceted assessment approaches.
