Özet

This chapter comprehensive reviews the biological and environmental impacts of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields (EMF), emphasizing the ongoing debate regarding their long-term health risks. As modern technologies like 5G and 6G rapidly expand, global population exposure begins as early as infancy, eliminating traditional control groups for epidemiological studies. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified radiofrequency radiation as a Group 2B possible carcinogen, noting its potential link to malignancies. On a cellular level, EMF exposure is shown to induce oxidative stress by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can lead to single- and double-stranded DNA breaks, cellular damage, and decreased fertility. Specifically, prolonged exposure is associated with health anomalies such as electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS)—characterized by headaches, fatigue, and cognitive changes—along side potential risks for salivary gland tumors, lymphoma, and impaired ovarian reserves. However, the author notes a dual nature to EMF, akin to Yin and Yang philosophy; it also demonstrates therapeutic potential, including accelerating wound healing, promoting osteoblast formation, and mitigating neurological pathologies like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. Ultimately, because total avoidance is impossible in a highly connected world, the literature emphasizes public awareness and minimizing exposure times as primary precautionary measures.
