Diabetes is a complex chronic disease that accounts for a significant portion of global mortality and morbidity, necessitating strict glycemic control to prevent debilitating complications and organ loss. Effective management relies heavily on patient self-management and permanent behavioral changes, areas where nursing interventions and education play a pivotal role in enhancing patient capabilities. Recent advancements in information technology have revolutionized diabetes care by introducing sophisticated devices and software that replace traditional self-monitoring methods. Modern diabetes management leverages Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems for real-time tracking, smart insulin pens with dosing memory, continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion pumps, and hybrid closed-loop systems that automate basal insulin delivery. Furthermore, emerging tools such as telemedicine applications, mobile health diaries, and non-invasive wearable technologies—including glucose-sensing contact lenses, sweat or saliva analyzers, and hypoglycemia alert wristbands—significantly optimize glycemic control while lowering risks. Within this technological framework, nurses bear the vital responsibility of acquiring technical knowledge to guide, educate, and support patients through their adaptation processes. Ultimately, integrating advanced diabetes technology with consistent nursing follow-up and structured self-management education significantly alleviates the disease burden and improves the overall quality of life for individuals living with diabetes.
