Authored by Dr. Erdem Selman Develi and edited by Prof. Dr. Muammer Tekeoğlu, the work titled World Economic History: 1500 and After comprehensively examines the deep transformations and shifts in power within the global economy from 1500 to the present day. While the center of the world economy was Asia and its strongest economies were China and India in the 1500s, economic dominance gradually shifted to Europe and the United Kingdom through Mercantilism, the Geographical Discoveries, and the Industrial Revolution. With technology and skilled artisans escaping from Britain, industrialization spread to Continental Europe and the United States, allowing the US to become the primary actor in the global economy following World Wars I and II. The study addresses the intellectual and economic impacts of Mercantilism, the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the Enlightenment; foreign capital and railway investments in Latin America; Russia's modernization post-Peter the Great; the decline of China and India; and the resurgence of Asia in the 21st century. Additionally, it evaluates 20th and 21st-century technological strides alongside Turkey's strategies and recommendations to become a strong regional and global economic power through investments in energy, defense, local automobiles, industrial production, and technology.
