Özet

This text explores formative assessment with a specific focus on learning trajectories as a complementary and powerful formative method in education, particularly within mathematics teaching. It begins by defining educational evaluation as a multi-step, systematic process to determine teaching effectiveness, highlighting the shift from traditional, periodic examinations to complementary evaluation methods that actively involve students in the process. Formative assessment is emphasized as a planned, highly interactive cycle providing crucial feedback that allows teachers to reorganize instruction according to individual student characteristics, aiming to close the gap between current student understanding and desired learning goals. The author directly connects this approach to teacher knowledge frameworks, such as Shulman’s pedagogical content knowledge and the "Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching" model developed by Ball, Thames, and Phelps. Learning trajectories, originally conceptualized by Simon, serve as hypothetical roadmaps that trace how children's mathematical thinking and mental processes grow and change over time. This research adapts a specific six-step learning trajectory model encompassing essential elements: content knowledge, concept knowledge, mathematical validity analysis, conceptual comprehension analysis, trajectory creation, and instructional decision-making. Ultimately, effectively creating and utilizing learning trajectories empowers teachers to accurately predict student difficulties, construct realistic learning environments, facilitate productive classroom discussions, and deliver highly tailored pedagogical support.
