Orthodontic mini-implants are titanium screws temporarily placed into bone to provide reliable anchorage for tooth movement during treatment, easily removed upon completion. These systems were developed to minimize patient discomfort caused by conventional appliances and overcome limitations like insufficient interradicular space and anatomical boundaries. Primary stabilization is critical for success, directly influenced by cortical bone quality, placement angle (around 30˚), and the clinician's biomechanical expertise. While direct or indirect surgical approaches can be preferred for placement, the success rate is relatively lower in patients under 15 due to softer bone architecture. Although complications such as root perforation, screw loosening, or fracture rarely occur, these risks are minimized through proper drilling procedures and effective oral hygiene training. Becoming a universal option in skeletal anchorage control in recent years, mini-screws are excellent alternatives that successfully manage challenging orthodontic mechanics like molar distalization and intrusion without requiring multidisciplinary work.
