Magnification and illumination systems play a critical role in endodontics for diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognosis evaluation due to the narrow and restricted nature of the oral cavity. Since the resolution of the human eye is limited to 0.2 mm, root canals can only be seen up to the orifice level with the naked eye, and age-related visual limitations pose significant disadvantages for practitioners. Assistive devices such as operating microscopes, dental loupes, and prismatic systems increase this resolution limit, providing great convenience to clinicians. The use of magnification systems, categorized into low, medium, and high levels, improves the musculoskeletal posture of clinicians, reduces iatrogenic errors, enhances patient communication, and increases the treatment success rate from 59% to 94%. On the other hand, high costs, infection control requirements, sharp instrument injury risks, and long adaptation periods are among the reported disadvantages. Consequently, with advancing technology, magnification systems have become the gold standard in endodontics, making it essential to support and encourage their widespread adoption among both professional clinicians and undergraduate dental students.
