This study aims to provide theoretical information about the concept of ecotourism, which emerged as a response to the negative impacts of mass tourism, has an increasing importance within the tourism sector, and is one of the alternative tourism types. In terms of understanding and correctly interpreting ecotourism, this concept is addressed within a holistic framework as a multi-dimensional alternative tourism type that should not only be considered as visits to natural areas but also must be carried out in line with sustainable tourism principles, protecting natural resources, respecting the culture of local people, offering them employment opportunities, and prioritizing the education of ecotourists. Therefore, in this study, comprehensive information is provided regarding the concept and importance of ecotourism, the principles of ecotourism, the types of ecotourism, the economic, environmental, and socio-cultural impacts of ecotourism, as well as the alternative tourism activities within the scope of ecotourism.
