Kentleşme, Kentlileşme ve Metropolitenleşme Kavramları ve Kentsel Büyüme Süreçleri
Özet
Kentleşme, bir nüfus hareketi olmanın ötesinde sanayileşme, ekonomik büyüme, toplumsal yapının değişimi, bireylerin yaşam tarzlarının, kaynak kullanımının ve kültürel dinamiklerin dönüşümünü içermektedir. Kentleşmenin etkileri arasında şehirlerin nüfusunun ve altyapısının büyümesi, ekonomik fırsatların artması, kültürel ve sosyal çeşitliliğin artması gibi olumlu yönler bulunurken, çevresel sorunlar, trafik sıkışıklığı, konut maliyetleri, tarım alanlarının azalması ve doğal habitatların tahrip edilmesi gibi olumsuzluklar da mevcuttur. Planlı ve dengeli kentleşme politikalarıyla ise negatif etkiler en aza indirilirken pozitif etkiler daha verimli ve sürdürülebilir hale getirilebilir.
Bu bölümde kentleşme kavramı beş alt başlık altında incelenmektedir. İlk olarak kentleşme ve kentlileşme kavramları ele alınmakta, daha sonra kentleşmenin ekonomik, sosyal, teknolojik ve siyasal nedenleri ile fiziksel, ekonomik, ekolojik, sosyokültürel ve psikolojik etkileri oraya konulmaktadır. Bir sonraki başlıkta farklı coğrafyalardaki kentleşme süreçleri gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkeler perspektifinden incelenerek Türkiye’nin kentleşme sürecine ayrı bir alt başlıkta değinilmektedir. Son olarak kentsel büyüme, kentsel büzüşme ve metropolitenleşme kavramlarını ele almaktadır.
Urbanization, includes industrialization, economic growth, changes of social structure, transformation of individuals' lifestyles, resource use and cultural dynamics. While urbanization includes positive aspects such as the growth of the population and infrastructure of cities, increased economic opportunities, and increased cultural and social diversity, there are also negative aspects such as environmental problems, traffic congestion, housing costs, decrease in agricultural areas and destruction of natural habitats. With balanced urbanization policies and planning, negative impacts can be minimized while positive impacts can be made more efficient and sustainable.
This section examines the concept of urbanization under five subheadings. First, the concepts of urbanization are discussed, followed by the economic, social, technological, and political causes of urbanization, along with its physical, economic, ecological, sociocultural, and psychological effects. The next section analyzes the urbanization processes in different geographies from the perspective of developed and developing countries, with a separate subheading dedicated to Turkey's urbanization process. Finally, the concepts of urban growth, urban shrinkage, and metropolitanization are addressed.
