The Role of Experiential Learning in Developing Students’ Attitudes Towards Sustainability in Tourism Education

Özet

Global developments have caused the characteristics of new generations to change, and have revealed the necessity of updating the education system and keeping up with the age. Especially with the effect of technological developments, fast and easy access to information has provided the necessity of personal and continuous learning. In this context, tourism education has become one of the most frequently discussed topics in researches. It has been revealed that the education currently provided with traditional methods cannot meet the needs of the current sector. For this reason, it is of great importance to redesign tourism education as student-centred with innovative and modern learning methods. Today, tourism has a significant impact on environmental, economic and social sustainability. The spread of sustainable tourism concepts requires individuals working in this field to have sustainability awareness. In this context, the teaching methods used by tourism education institutions in the process of transferring sustainability principles to students are important. Experiential learning can provide students with practical experiences beyond theoretical knowledge and thus effectively shape students' attitudes towards
