Oral and dental health plays a critical role in overall health and well-being. Dental caries and periodontal diseases account for a significant proportion of the global health burden. In developed countries, dental caries is still among the leading health problems and untreated dental caries affects millions of people worldwide. Community-based interventions, education programs and socioeconomic factors need to be addressed to protect oral health. For example, fluoride mouth rinsing programs in Japan and universal dental care access in Sweden have been effective in improving oral health outcomes. Furthermore, interdisciplinary approaches to oral health and cross-sectoral collaborations can contribute to better outcomes by increasing access to health services. In conclusion, oral and dental health protection is vital for improving population health and effective policies need to be developed in this area.
